Cart abandonment & experimentation, defined
Every term used across the NavonaAI dashboard and site, defined plainly and on its own — from cart abandonment and prevention to how we run and measure A/B tests.
All terms, A to Z
- A/B Test
- An A/B test splits traffic between two or more variants to measure which one performs better on a defined outcome.
- Abandoned Cart Recovery
- Abandoned cart recovery is what email and SMS re-engagement tools do — following up with a shopper after they've already left an unpurchased cart, usually with a reminder or a discount, to bring them back to finish the order.
- Added Revenue
- Added revenue is the total order value from carts where a shopper accepted an intervention and completed the purchase.
- Attribution vs. Incremental Lift
- Attribution counts revenue that occurred alongside an intervention; incremental lift counts only the revenue that would not have occurred without it.
- Bot Traffic
- Bot traffic is non-human activity on a store — automated requests, scrapers, and monitoring tools — that shows up in the same data as real shopper behavior unless it is filtered out.
- Cart Abandonment
- Cart abandonment is when a shopper adds one or more items to their cart but leaves the store without completing checkout.
- Cart Abandonment Prevention
- Cart abandonment prevention is acting before a shopper leaves a cart unpurchased, so the sale is kept from being lost in the first place.
- Cart Abandonment Rate
- Cart abandonment rate is the share of carts created in a period that never became an order.
- Cart Value Tier
- A cart value tier is a bracket of cart value that determines which discount or offer a shopper is eligible for.
- Discount Stacking
- Discount stacking is what happens when more than one discount applies to the same order or line item at checkout.
- Exit Intent
- Exit intent is a signal that a shopper is likely about to leave a page without completing the action it was meant for.
- Holdout Group
- A holdout group is a set of shoppers deliberately excluded from an intervention so their behavior can serve as the baseline it's measured against.
- Intervention
- An intervention is the specific action shown to a shopper who is likely about to abandon their cart, aimed at keeping the sale from being lost.
- Minimum Detectable Effect
- Minimum detectable effect is the smallest true difference between two variants that a test is capable of reliably detecting.
- Prevention Rate
- Prevention rate is the share of carts that saw an intervention and went on to become an order.
- Statistical Significance
- Statistical significance is a measure of how likely an observed difference between two variants is to be real rather than the product of random chance.
