Bot Traffic
Bot traffic is non-human activity on a store — automated requests, scrapers, and monitoring tools — that shows up in the same data as real shopper behavior unless it is filtered out.
Bots create carts, load pages, and generate sessions without any human intent to purchase. Left unfiltered, this activity inflates raw counts like sessions or carts created, which distorts any metric calculated as a ratio of those counts — including cart abandonment rate.
How much bot traffic a store sees varies by store and by time period, which is part of why raw session or cart counts are unreliable on their own without knowing how much of that traffic is human.
Filtering bot traffic matters as much for billing and measurement as it does for reporting — a business that counts sessions for pricing, or bases decisions on conversion metrics, needs those figures to reflect real shoppers rather than automated noise.
