Abandoned Cart Recovery

Abandoned cart recovery is what email and SMS re-engagement tools do — following up with a shopper after they've already left an unpurchased cart, usually with a reminder or a discount, to bring them back to finish the order.

Recovery tools work after the fact. Once a cart has been abandoned, they use the shopper's email address or phone number — captured earlier in the checkout flow — to send one or more follow-up messages, often spaced over hours or days, asking the shopper to return and complete checkout.

NavonaAI is not an abandoned cart recovery tool. It doesn't send follow-up emails or texts after a shopper leaves — its intervention happens while the shopper is still on the page, before the cart is abandoned, which is why it's described as prevention rather than recovery throughout this glossary and the rest of this site.

Recovery and prevention aren't mutually exclusive; a store can run both. Recovery only gets a chance with shoppers who left contact information behind, and only after they've already abandoned. Prevention has no contact-information requirement, because it acts in the moment instead of afterward.
